une chronique fort sympathique

Skittle Alley/Annemarie

May 4th, 2011
The second release on Dufflecoat Records pairs Skittle Alley (France) with Indonesia’s Annemarie. For some reason I imagined Skittle Alley being one of those acoustic lo-fi acts but nothing could be further from the truth with this one man band. Both tracks here sound like a striped back Pains Of Being Pure At Heart. It’s Hard To Find Love is particularity blissful whilst there are hints of a Get Ready era New Order on Out Of Breath.
This is the first I have heard from Annemarie since 2009′s excellent ABC on TV debut longplayer. Like most of their contemporaries in their home town of Bandung they have a fixation with the late 80′s, early 90′s UK indie scene and here they remind me for the most part of Strawberry Story.  They have lost some of their fuzziness but both tracks sound so much fuller and bolder whilst vocalist Rimauli has a voice to die for.
